Your feedback shapes each feature. Some experiments may never reach the main clock.

A letter from the founder

Why JetClock X exists.

JetClock began with a simple idea: that the anonymous specks crossing the sky are full of stories worth telling. But it turns out that having a clock that can read the sky opens up a much larger world of possibilities. So many possibilities, in fact, that we needed a way to get them out there without overwhelming the main clock or its roadmap. That's why we created JetClock X.

This is not a subscription that's needed to keep your clock running. Lifetime updates to improve the core experience will always be free. JetClock X is an experimental programme that takes advantage of the fact that every JetClock is a powerful computer, capable of running much more than just the standard feature set.

By subscribing to JetClock X, you help us fund the development of new features and keep the main clock free for everyone. New features often means new API subscriptions, data feeds and bandwidth. Your support helps pay for the infrastructure needed to bring these features to life.

Some of what we try here will graduate to every JetClock. Some never will - and that's exactly the point. If you'd like to see where JetClock is heading before anyone else, and have a hand in steering it, I'd love for you to join us on the journey.

Experience the joy of navigation

This JetClock X release brings navigation to your clock in two ways.

First, the release introduces aircraft and weather maps, allowing your to visualise the airspace around you. These come in the form of glances which are full screen views that offer complete immersion. There are vessel maps too, doing the same for the shipping around you - though this view is very much an experiment.

Second, there are a whole host of new ways to navigate your clock. We've worked with Pimoroni to develop new touch drivers for the Desk clock, allowing you to control brightness, sleep and skip through full screen glances. We've also introduced the concept of a remote control, allowing you to skip to a glance with the click of a button in the web app.

Your airspace, at a glance

A glance is a full screen display that takes over your whole clock. Fully customisable, glances can auto-rotate on a set frequency or be toggled by touch or remote. This release brings two kinds of glance: an aircraft map that plots the traffic overhead as it moves, and a weather map charting the rain, wind, cloud and even air quality in your area. As you'd expect, maps are infinitely adjustable, so you can get exactly the right look for your space.

What's new
  • Aircraft map - show live traffic overhead
  • Weather map - rain, wind and more across your region
  • Glances - extra faces your clock can turn to
  • Auto-rotate - 5 / 15 / 30 min, or on the hour

Your waterways, at a glance

As well as aircraft and weather, you can now visualise shipping traffic around you. The vessels map plots vessels around you exactly as the aircraft map plots the traffic overhead, drawn from live AIS. Everything you know from the aircraft map is here: choose your radius, switch between Map and Compass, set it rotating as a glance. You can also add wave height or ocean currents over the view.

What's new
  • Vessels map - live shipping from 1 to 50 km out
  • Map or Compass - the same two views as aircraft
  • Colour by type - cargo, tanker, passenger, fishing
  • Sea overlays - wave height & direction, or ocean currents
  • Ocean or outline basemaps, with labels off, name or full

An experiment. Vessel positions come from public AIS receivers, so coverage is uneven. Nothing here is a navigational aid, and this feature that may change or be withdrawn.

New ways to navigate.

This release introduces two new ways to control your JetClock - through touch, on Desk and Air, and via remote control on all clocks.

NewDesk Clock

Touch

Two invisible strips now run down the edges of Desk and Air clocks. Tap the right to step through your glances, tap the left for the control menu, where brightness, sleep and mute all live. Silence notifications or wake your sleeping clock with just a tap. No hardware upgrade required.

What's New
  • Tap the right edge to cycle glances
  • Tap the left edge for the control menu
  • Brightness, sleep & mute on Desk Clocks
  • Tap to wake when the clock is asleep

Remote Control

Not every clock has a touchscreen, and sometimes yours is on the other side of the room. Open the dashboard on your phone, tap Remote and choose what you want to see - the clock turns to it straight away, then picks up its normal rotation again. Desk, Zero and Air, all the same.

What changed
  • Every clock - Desk, Zero & Air
  • Jump to any glance - or back to the clock face
  • No touchscreen required
  • Works from anywhere you're signed in

* The vessels map is an experiment and its data is not guaranteed. AIS positions come from public receivers, so coverage is uneven - good around busy coasts and ports, thin or empty inland - and it is not a navigational aid. As with any experiment, it may change or be withdrawn.
