Connection Issues

Troubleshoot connection issues with your JetClock

If your JetClock is having trouble connecting to WiFi or you're experiencing issues during setup, follow these troubleshooting steps.

Power and Boot Issues

1
Check Power Connection

Ensure your JetClock is properly plugged into a USB (or USB C with adapter) socket. After a few seconds, you should see the JetClock logo appear on the screen.

⚠️

If the screen remains blank or shows an error message, try unplugging and reconnecting the power adapter.

2
Wait for Boot Process

The clock needs time to fully boot up. Wait for the JetClock logo to appear before attempting to connect to the hotspot.

Hotspot Connection Issues

1
Find the JetClock Network

When the clock first boots, it creates a WiFi network called "JetClock". Look for this network in your device's WiFi settings.

💡

If you don't see the "JetClock" network, the clock may not be in hotspot mode. Try unplugging and reconnecting the power.

2
Connect to Hotspot

Connect to the "JetClock" network on your laptop or smartphone. This network may not have internet access - this is normal.

⚠️

Make sure you're connecting to the "JetClock" network, not your regular WiFi network.

Setup Page Issues

1
Access jetclock.local

Once connected to the JetClock network, open a browser and go to jetclock.local

Common issues:

  • Page not loading: Try refreshing the page or waiting a few more seconds
  • "Cannot connect" error: Make sure you're connected to the JetClock network
  • Different device: Try using a different phone or computer
2
Select WiFi Network

On jetclock.local, you'll see a list of available WiFi networks. IT MUST BE A 2.4GHz NETWORK.

⚠️

JetClock only supports 2.4GHz WiFi networks. 5GHz networks are not supported and will cause connection failures.

💡

Most routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Look for network names that might include "2.4G" or "2.4GHz" in the name, or check your router settings.

3
Enter WiFi Password

Type your WiFi password carefully. Common issues:

  • Wrong password: Double-check your password
  • Special characters: Avoid special characters like apostrophes (') or other symbols that may cause connection issues
  • Network name: Make sure you're connecting to the correct network

Connection Status Issues

1
Check Connection Progress

After entering your password, the clock will attempt to connect. You should see a progress screen.

The clock will show a connection progress screen

You can then close jetclock.local.

2
Connection Success

If the connection is successful, you'll see a success screen.

WiFi connection successful

Successful WiFi connection

The clock will then reboot and be ready for registration.

3
Connection Failure

If the connection fails, you'll see an error screen.

Failed WiFi connection

💡

If the connection fails, the hotspot will be created again. Simply repeat the process from step 3.

Router-Specific Issues

Signal Strength and Placement

  • WiFi signal: JetClock needs a strong WiFi signal, especially during setup
  • Distance: If having connection issues, try moving JetClock closer to your router
  • Interference: Metal objects, walls, and other devices can interfere with signal

Router Settings to Check

  • Security: Use WPA2 or WPA3 (avoid WEP)
  • MAC filtering: Ensure it's not blocking the JetClock
  • Device limits: Check if your router has reached its device limit
  • Protected Management Frames (PMF): Set to 'Disabled' or 'Optional' in router settings
  • WiFi Standard: Ensure router is using WiFi 5 (802.11ac) or legacy mode compatible with older devices

Network Types and Channels

  • 2.4GHz: ✅ Supported (required)
  • 5GHz: ❌ Not supported
  • WiFi Channel: Try restarting router to free up congested channels, or manually change WiFi channel
  • Mesh networks: ✅ Usually work fine
  • Guest networks: ✅ Usually work fine

Advanced Router Configuration

If you continue to experience issues, try these router settings:

Accessing Router Settings:

  1. Open web browser and go to 192.168.1.1 (or your router's IP address)
  2. Log in with your router credentials
  3. Navigate to WiFi/Wireless settings

Recommended Settings:

  • WiFi Mode: Set to 802.11ac (WiFi 5) or legacy mode
  • Channel Width: Try 20MHz instead of 40MHz or 80MHz
  • PMF: Set to 'Disabled' or 'Optional'
  • Band Steering: Disable if enabled
  • Fast Roaming: Disable if enabled

Internet Connection Issues

  • Router connected but no internet: JetClock will show a green face icon
  • Solution: Check your internet connection and restart your router
  • Network vs Internet: JetClock can connect to WiFi but still lack internet access

Alternative Setup Methods

If the standard setup continues to fail:

Method 1: Different Device Try using a different phone or computer to access the setup page.

Method 2: Different Browser Try using a different web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).

Method 3: Incognito Mode Try accessing the setup page in incognito or private browsing mode.

Method 4: Reset and Retry

  1. Unplug the JetClock from power
  2. Wait 10 seconds
  3. Plug it back in
  4. Wait for the QR code to appear
  5. Follow the WiFi setup process again
