Aircraft Detection Issues

Troubleshoot problems with aircraft detection and notifications

Having trouble with aircraft detection? This guide will help you resolve issues with aircraft detection and notifications.

Location and Direction Issues

1
Check Location Settings

Verify that your JetClock's location is set correctly. Go to your clock's settings page and check the latitude and longitude coordinates.

💡

Use the "Auto Fill location" feature to automatically detect your current location, or enter coordinates manually if needed.

2
Verify Clock Direction

Ensure the clock direction is set correctly (0-360 degrees). This determines which direction the clock will detect aircraft from.

⚠️

The direction setting is crucial for accurate aircraft detection. An incorrect direction will cause the clock to look in the wrong area.

3
Check Location Accuracy

Make sure your location is accurate to within a few hundred meters. Small location errors can significantly affect detection range.

Notification Distance Issues

1
Check Notification Distance

Review your notification distance setting (1-50 km). A smaller distance will show more local aircraft, while a larger distance will show aircraft further away.

💡

Start with a distance of 5-10 km and adjust based on your location and preferences.

2
Understand Detection Range

JetClock detects aircraft within your specified notification distance. Aircraft outside this range won't trigger notifications.

3
Consider Your Location

If you're in a remote area with limited air traffic, you may see fewer aircraft. Urban areas and near airports typically have more activity.

Network and Connection Issues

1
Verify Internet Connection

Ensure your JetClock has a stable internet connection. Aircraft data is fetched from external sources, so connectivity is essential.

💡

Check that your clock shows as "Online" in your dashboard.

2
Check WiFi Signal

A weak WiFi signal can cause intermittent connection issues. Try moving your clock closer to the router or improving WiFi coverage.

3
Restart the Clock

If detection issues persist, try restarting your JetClock by unplugging and reconnecting the power.

Data Source Issues

1
Check Data Availability

Aircraft detection depends on data from external sources. Some areas may have limited coverage or temporary outages.

💡

Aircraft detection works best in areas with good ADS-B coverage, typically near airports and populated areas.

2
Understand Data Limitations

Not all aircraft transmit position data. Military aircraft, some private planes, and aircraft without ADS-B transponders may not be detected.

3
Check for Service Outages

If you suddenly stop seeing aircraft, there may be a temporary service outage. Check our system status page for updates.

Display and Notification Issues

1
Check Clock Display

Ensure your clock is displaying the time correctly. If the display is showing errors or not updating, aircraft detection may be affected.

2
Verify Notification Settings

Check that notifications are enabled in your clock's settings. You can adjust the notification distance and other preferences.

3
Test Notifications

Try adjusting your notification distance to a very small value (1-2 km) to test if notifications are working with nearby aircraft.

Common Issues and Solutions

FAQs

Optimization Tips

Best Placement

  • Place your JetClock near a window facing the direction you want to detect aircraft from
  • Avoid placing it in basements or areas with poor WiFi signal
  • Keep it away from sources of electromagnetic interference

Location Considerations

  • Near airports: You'll see more aircraft but they may be at lower altitudes
  • Rural areas: Fewer aircraft but potentially more interesting sightings
  • Urban areas: More commercial traffic but may be at higher altitudes

Settings Optimization

  • Start with a 5-10 km notification distance
  • Set the direction to match your clock's physical orientation
  • Use auto-location detection for best accuracy

When to Contact Support
